Global Fashion Agenda & UNEP present: Circular Systems for a Net Positive Fashion Industry

Hecho por Nosotros has been working for systemic change for over 14 years, unmasking the face of fast fashion and its impact on the environment. It works within the framework of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to build a better industry with transparency. And what better way to do this than to educate and discuss these issues?

On 12 November, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, Hecho por Nosotros will support UNEP and the Global Fashion Agenda in their event entitled "Circular Systems for a Net Positive Fashion Industry". Influential industry leaders will be hosted in the Green Zone amphitheater, to discuss a holistic route to a circular fashion system, from circular design to business models and recycling, to citizen behavior.

According to the Global Fashion agenda, there has been a great improvement from 2018 to 2019, in social and environmental performance. However, fashion companies are not implementing the required sustainable solutions as quickly as they should. They are failing to counterbalance the negative aspects of the industry and remain, as usual, far from sustainable.

Hecho por Nosotros works with natural fibers in a world where plastic is the fashion. Indeed, synthetic fibers are known for their low cost. Unlike natural fibers harvested by farmers, commonly used synthetic fibers are mass-produced from petrochemicals to achieve uniform strengths, lengths and colors, easily adaptable to specific applications. Today, with growing concerns about sustainability and the search for ways to advance sustainable development, we can turn to something that has been fundamental to society since the dawn of civilization - natural fibers - which offer a viable solution for a more sustainable textile industry and a healthier world. We want to accelerate and promote the use of natural fibers, providing information on their multiple positive impacts on local development and the environment. To do this, we are mapping the world of natural fibers.

We are grateful for the invitation. We strongly believe that change will not happen overnight, but that we can all fight together for a better future, the time is now.
