What we do

“For over ten years, we have carried out capacity building initiatives at the base of fashion value chains, placing us in a position to deliver effective solutions that work hand-in-hand with ancestral wisdom to address local problems”

We work to create a fashion business model that influences the entire value chain of products, in what refers to transparency, traceability and strengthening of good practices. This ranges from shearing and the subsequent production of natural fibers, the design as an element to create long-lasting, contemporary and timeless products, to the insertion of products into the global fashion markets.

In order to achieve this, we help SMEs to specialize and strengthen their business models through exchanges between universities, professionals and experts from different areas, while also raising awareness among all actors from producers, designers and consumers so that they are fundamental elements of the systemic change towards a sustainable fashion industry.

“Hecho por Nosotros has an important role to promote and protect sustainability not only in the textile industry, but in all global value chains and beyond”

Our work is contributing to exports and market shares in Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, which drive income and employment generation, improving in particular the livelihoods of local communities engaged in the sourcing and processing of Camelid fibres.

The main areas of our work are:

Development of a Transparent and Sustainable Camelid Value Chain:

Camelids sector, as well as the whole textile industry and its global value chains, have a manifested need for increased traceability and sustainability of sourcing and processing practices. Furthermore, the Andean camelids sector has a strong demand for technical assistance to link producers directly to markets in order to improve MSMEs capacity to trade semi-finished and finished products internationally, including improving skills and processing standards to comply with international quality and processing standards.

We are developing an inclusive, transparent and sustainable value chain of Andean Camelid Fibres by improving local livelihoods and sustainability. This is achieved by (i) promoting camelids fibres within the textile industry at regional and local level; and (ii) implementing sustainable business practices in the sourcing of these fibres while also strengthening community-based natural resource management.

Advocating for a Sustainable Fashion and Textile Industry based on the Circular Economy:

We work on a daily basis in advancing towards a systemic change in the fashion and textile industry, one based on circular economy strategies and practice, rather than on the traditional linear model. The basic concept of circularity implies a virtuous circle of production and consumption in which there is no waste. In the fashion industry, this means going beyond a simple garment, that is, thinking about products as a whole, analyzing their entire life cycle in order to reduce negative impacts on the social and environmental spheres.

A circular fashion model is more than just recycling (recycling is usually considered as the last resort within an industry or circular economy) and that is why we believe that in the new paradigm, this concept becomes a fundamental pillar to move towards a sustainable fashion industry.

Dialogues and Capacity-Building at a Regional and Global Level

In order to foster collaboration efforts and work streams to advance sustainability in global value chains of the fashion and textiles industry, we are constant participants in various international platforms such as the UN, WTO, WEF and G20. Participating in many of these global dialogues offers a unique opportunity to organise events at the highest political forums as a crucial tool to promote our goals. Some of the specific work streams include education, employment, local-global collaboration, infrastructure, financing, business and human rights.

On a regional and local level, we organise webinars and workshops on sustainability. We provide artisan-designer mutual learning experience at local Arts and Crafts Centers, to further advance and innovate for sustainable design.
